Ed Viesturs

Yesterday, I watched a DVD called Everest. You may remember Ed Viesturs as the team leader of the IMAX expedition that scaled Everest in 1996 - at the same time they had the misfortune of witnessing and assisting in the "Into Thin Air" disaster as it unfolded (told by Jon Krakauer in his own famous account).

On May 12 2005, Ed Viesturs became the first American to have scaled all fourteen 8000-meter mountains without supplemental oxygen by climbing Annapurna. More coverage here.

Ed will be touring the country in September to discuss the completion of his life-long quest. I look forward to seeing him talk at UPenn's Irvine Auditorium.
